About Elizabeth Doro, CNM
Liz Doro is a practicing midwife at Southdale ObGyn in Edina and Burnsville. She started her nursing career in high-risk obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Minnesota and continued her labor and delivery nursing career at Southdale Hospital in Edina while she finished her degree in midwifery.
Doro obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in health and wellness – public health and life science from the University of Minnesota. She also earned a master’s in nursing from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland, before completing her degree in midwifery at Frontier Nursing University.
Doro chose to join Southdale ObGyn as the practice’s fourth midwife because she knew and worked with many of the physicians and midwives in labor and delivery. “I knew I would be in a good place,” Doro said.
Doro is pleased to see that more women are interested in midwife care and counsel. As she explains, “Women are eager to be a bigger part of their pregnancy process—from prenatal care to delivery.”
She enjoys having in-depth conversations with the women in her care, which often creates a lasting bond. Beyond pregnancy care, Liz also provides traditional gynecological care such as annual exams, preconception care, abnormal bleeding, birth control and breast concerns.
“The cool part of being a midwife is seeing patients throughout their pregnancy and the excitement of being there for the birth and seeing the baby afterward,” Doro said.
Outside of work, Doro enjoys hiking with her two dogs, baking sourdough (she had this passion even before the pandemic), spending time in the gym … and traveling with her partner: “We want to hit as many national parks as we can!”
