About Ashley Janovsky, CNM, APRN, WHNP-BC

Care philosophy: I believe that how each person chooses to utilize healthcare is shaped by their past experiences and how much they feel a part of their own decision-making process. My aim is to guide each human through options in a way that aligns with personal goals, and to offer educated and evidenced-based recommendations in a way that builds trust — both in yourself and in your provider.

Midwifery as a profession just about fell into my lap. During my labor and delivery rotation in nursing school I witnessed one birth where the birthing person was almost forgotten. As a budding nurse, I knew that such a momentous event in life deserved so much more. After graduation from William Paterson University, I worked in pediatrics with newborns through teens who had spinal cord and brain injuries. I taught families how to adjust to and care for these big life changes. I found I really enjoyed building relationships with families over time.

At the same time, I was an acting youth representative for an NGO at the United Nations. Gaining perspective for maternal and fetal health across the globe from the people who lived it was essential for me to understand perspective. I decided I wanted to be a provider who could change the way birthing people experienced those moments. Yet as I still say, I had a nurse’s heart, and that is how midwifery found me.

I attended The University of Pennsylvania to obtain my masters in Midwifery and Women’s Health. Then this east coast lady moved to Minnesota! I have been lucky enough to practice in a variety of settings which have given me such an appreciation for all types of care. From home birth, to birth center and out of hospital care, to a higher risk laborist role, full-scope practice and in between; I work to incorporate physiologic care into all interactions and cases.

When it comes to birth, I am honored to be invited into that space around you. Those moments still have not lost an ounce of magic and I know it never will.

Outside of work I live with my two boys in Plymouth. They keep me busy with soccer, basketball, and engineering interests! I have a wheaten terrier named Finnegan. I enjoy a good book, finding a new locally owned book or tea shop, joyful food, felting, nurturing my green thumb, and traveling.
