Nurse Midwife
About Claire Levar, CNM, APRN
Care Philosophy: As a midwife the care I provide is strongly rooted in supporting personal autonomy and practicing trauma informed care. I am committed to genuinely listening to your health concerns, educating you on evidence based care options, and then working with you to create a plan that is alignment with you health goals.
Although I have been fascinated by pregnancy and birth for most of my life, it took some time to find my path to midwifery. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with a degree in child psychology, I worked as a foster parent and later at a shelter for teen parents. It wasn’t until I became a birth doula that my passion for birth work was truly solidified. I then went on to earn my nursing degree and master’s in nurse midwifery from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
One of my favorite parts of being a midwife is getting to know families and walking alongside them throughout pregnancy, then celebrating with them as they welcome the newest addition to their family. I also enjoy supporting young people during their first annual exam or pap smears, using education and open conversation to help make OBGYN care less intimidating and to help build a lifelong foundation of health advocacy.
When not in clinic or catching babies, I enjoy practicing yoga, cross-country skiing in the winter, hiking in the summer, reading, cooking, and spending time with my family.
