Our Nurse Midwifery Services
A nurse midwife is an advanced practice nurse who provides well-woman and low-risk pregnancy care. At Premier Women’s Health of Minnesota, our team includes Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who see women in all stages of life and for pregnancy care.
For women who are planning a pregnancy, or who are pregnant, our nurse midwives offer:
- Consult for preconception
- Routinely monitor your pregnancy
- Perform ultrasounds and prenatal blood work
- Be with you during labor and delivery
- Care for you postpartum and help with lactation
Nurse midwives partner with our OBGYN physicians for low-risk pregnancies and delivery. Working closely with our healthcare providers, our midwives offer care that respects various cultures and personal preferences.
What is the Difference Between an ObGyn and a Midwife?
Pregnant people may choose to receive care from either an ObGyn or a midwife throughout their pregnancy. One of the major differences between an ObGyn and a midwife is the type of care offered. A midwife will suggest strategies for labor and is open to both traditional and nontraditional delivery methods depending on your preferences.
Your healthcare provider is dedicated to maintaining a healthy and safe pregnancy. Whether you choose to be cared for by one of our obstetricians or one of our midwives, you can depend on personalized, supportive care that puts you first.
Who Shouldn’t Use a Midwife?
For women who experience high-risk pregnancies or conditions, a nurse midwife may not be the right approach. These conditions often require a a greater level of care or specific labor and delivery options that should be supported by the appropriate provider.
Please check with your office to see if your midwife assists during c-sections, as this varies from office to office.
