About Mary Martinie, MD
Care philosophy: I really enjoy spending time with my patient and teaching her about her health conditions. I strive to really listen as my patient talks, and engage in a conversation, not a lecture.
I am a transplant to Minnesota and I love it. My husband Bob took a faculty position with the Department of Neurosciences at “the U” in 2008, and we couldn’t be happier. We love the city, our jobs, even the snow.
Prior to medical school, I was a teacher, and I bring my love of teaching to my patients. I really enjoy spending time with my patient and teaching her about her health conditions. I strive to really listen as my patient talks, and engage in a conversation, not a lecture! I want to make sure she understands all her options, and feels as though she has made a truly informed decision about her care. I am a frustrated artist too – I like to draw pictures and diagrams for patients because for me, visual cues are very helpful.
Obstetrics is my first love. I knew from the first day of my obstetrics rotation in medical school that this was the most amazing aspect of medicine. It is such a privilege to deliver a baby and witness that first blink, first breath, and first cry. There’s nothing like handing a squirming new life to mom’s waiting arms.
I am thrilled to be a part of Oakdale ObGyn. This is an amazing group of physicians. They are devoted to women’s health care, and truly offer patient-centered care. I am so glad to be in a group that offers vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) services as well as so many minimally invasive surgery options. We want our patients to have the shortest recovery period possible, and get back to enjoying life.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Bob, and two dogs, both Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Ellis and Emmy. (Shedding season is something at our house!) I have an aquarium of tropical fish and like to nurture my houseplants, too. I always have extra spider plant babies! I enjoy reading, especially mysteries,. Bob and I have four children, all grown and on their own, spread from Florida to Alaska!
