About Karissa Peterson, PT, DPT

Care philosophy: I strive to provide care to all patients that is patient-centered, holistic, meaningful & evidence based. I enjoy treating patients of all walks of life no matter the level of complexity, in fact, I welcome it. Let’s get better together!

Hello! Thank you for stopping by to learn more about me! My name is Karissa but you can also call me “KP.” Voted as “most Minnesotan” in my friend group, I grew up in the Minneapolis area but also experienced quality time “up north” at my grandparent’s farmstead in NW Minnesota. Versatility is a skillset I learned at a very young age that led to various experiences in varying healthcare roles in a multitude of settings.

After acquiring my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota, I hit the road as a travel PT. I have provided patient care in outpatient orthopedics also including neurological conditions, acute care, and long term care in upstate New York, North Dakota, northern Minnesota, Alaska, and Tennessee. A common area of need I observed was in pelvic floor women’s health (ie: pelvic health dysfunction, incontinence (urinary), pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, and pre and post-partum care). Through these observations, I was passionate in acquiring skills to treat these presentations. I hold certifications through Herman & Wallace for pelvic health and also certified in dry needling.

Lastly, my mother is my muse. Have you heard of the saying “empowered women, empower women” ? She is the “empowered woman that empowered me” to be the provider I am today. My mother was a catalyst to her profession as a cardiac RN, furthering cardiac care through robust clinical research. I am passionate in supporting her memorial internship offered to students pursuing a career in healthcare through the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation.

Outside of work you can find me spending quality time with my family and friends especially at the lake in the Walker, MN area. Some of my interests are all things outdoors, cooking, yoga, pilates, resistance training, volleyball, hiking, downhill skiing, (soon to be pickleball and kickboxing), audiobook reading, concerts, swing dancing, fantasy football with the gal pals (is being an optimistic Vikings fan a hobby or a disappointment? Asking for a friend) and you may have guessed…traveling!
