What is the MonaLisa Touch®?
The MonaLisa Touch® is a short and safe procedure designed to restore gynecological health. This procedure will require you to be in a similar position as a routine Pap so your provider can insert a small wand into your vagina. This device will deliver gentle laser energy into the vaginal walls, triggering a healing response that improves natural lubrication and thickens the vaginal walls.
Am I a Candidate for MonaLisa Touch®?
You may be a good candidate if:
- You are menopausal or have just gone through menopause
- You are experiencing urinary issues, such as excessive UTIs, due to vaginal dryness
- Your symptoms have not improved after using lubrication or vaginal moisturizers
- Your symptoms have not improved after trying other forms of hormone therapy
As with any form of healthcare treatment, the decision to undergo this procedure should be made with your healthcare provider, who can review the process and potential effects with you.
What Symptoms Can the MonaLisa Touch® Treat?
MonaLisa Touch® is commonly used to reduce symptoms of vaginal atrophy, which can occur in women who are undergoing or have gone through menopause. During menopause, your body begins to decrease estrogen levels, marking the end of your reproductive years. With less of this hormone, the vaginal walls can become thin, dry, and inflamed, leading to symptoms such as:
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Vaginal itching
- Vaginal burning
- Urinary incontinence
How Effective is the MonaLisa Touch®?
To ensure the most effective results, your provider will likely schedule treatment three times over the course of 18 weeks. Many women report symptom relief after one session with significant improvements after each subsequent session.
