About Cristen Singer, WHNP-C
Care philosophy: My clinical practice has been guided by understanding and honoring a patient’s lived experience as they engage with me for their healthcare needs during life transitions.
I grew up in New Jersey surrounded by strong women in healthcare – my mother is and both grandmothers were nurses. Although I was inspired by their example, I initially pursued a career in athletic journalism, shaped by my own experiences as an athlete. While that work was exciting, I ultimately felt called to a profession centered on helping others, which led me to nursing. Having also lived in Boston, Louisville, and now the Twin Cities, I value the different communities and perspectives that shape how patients experience healthcare.
As a nurse, I was drawn to both the fast-paced environment of the emergency department and the meaningful work of labor and delivery. Being present for some of the most important and vulnerable moments in a patient’s life is a privilege that continues to shape my approach to care.
Since becoming a nurse practitioner in 2006, I have focused on supporting patients through life’s key transitions – from becoming a parent and navigating lactation, to stages such as puberty and menopause. I believe education is empowering and strive to provide thoughtful, evidence-based guidance so patients can make informed decisions that align with their values and goals. I am especially energized by the growing range of options in menopause care and enjoy helping women thrive through both medical and holistic approaches.
Outside of the clinic, I’m usually at my “second job” as a soccer mom – spending plenty of time in the car shuttling my kids to their sports and cheering them on from the sidelines. I love daily walks with our dog, Juneau, and catching up with friends, and unwinding with my husband over shows like Ted Lasso or The Pitt. When I get the chance, you’ll find me trying to keep up with my kids on the slopes, working on my mountain biking and snowboarding skills, or enjoying my favorite place to be – out on the water, waterskiing and soaking up lake life.
